Kozhikode : Leptospirosis has claimed eight more lives in Kerala on Sunday. The State Health Department has issued high alert in all districts, excluding Kasargode. Till Sunday, 269 confirmed cases have been reported and 651 people were admitted with rat fever symptoms.

High fever, headache, muscle aches, abdominal pain and vomiting are the symptoms of leptopsirosis. It can affect Kidneys, cause meningitis , liver failure and respiratory issues. Most of the confirmed case have been reported from Kozhikode, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Palakkad and Malappuram disctricts.

On Sunday, Health Minister KK Shailaja sought extreme caution against spreading of the disease.
