Kozhikode : After flood, Kerala is facing the threat of Leptospirosis aka rat fever. The Health department has issued high alert and issued necessary precautions to contain the disease.

Two people succumbed to the fever on Saturday morning rising the death toll to 12. More than four lakh medicines were distributed in the district on Friday.

Leptospirosis, popularly known as rat fever is a communicable disease which is caused by direct contact with body fluids of an infected animal, usually rats.

On Friday, as many as 134 people have approached various hospitals showing symptoms of the disease. People with similar symptoms of rat fever were also reported in Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kannur districts.
